英汉翻译搭配中的增词与减词方法-苏州翻译公司-苏州诚译通翻译
在英汉翻译时，有时为了行文的需要，都可以在译文里增加几个词，或减少几个词。增词可以使译文流畅，减词可以使译文简洁。这是因为有些词在一种语言里可能是必要的，而在另一种语言里就会显得多余了。
1. 1998年是联合国确定的国际海洋年，中国政府愿借此机会介绍中国海洋事业的发展情况。
The year 1998 has been designated by the United Nations as International Ocean Year, and on this occasion the Chinese Government would like to introduce the progress of China's work in this particular field to the world.
分析：原文“介绍……的发展情况”句子是完整的。但在译文里却需要说明向谁介绍，因此加了to the world。
2. 我进去看了，只记得门警是瑞士兵士，穿着黄色制服，别的没有印象了。
l went there to have a lock. All I remember now is that the guards at the entrance were Swiss soldiers in yellow uniforms.
分析：减词的一个例子。汉语为了加强语气，对于一件事，往往从一个方面说了之后，还要从另一个方面说一说。英语则不然。译文中，前面有了Al l remember now is...，后面如果再说and I don't remember anything else，就显得多余了。
范畴词如“方面”、“方式”、“问题”、“情况”等，在汉语里用得很多。这类词在句子里没有多少实际意义，但很有用，可以使句子流畅。汉译英时，往往不需要译出来。
3. 中国有12亿多人口，陆地自然资源人均占有量低于世界平均水平。
China has a population of more than 1.2 billion, and its land natural resources per capita are lower than the world’s average.
分析：average作为名词，就包含着“水平”的意思。
4. 中国民主革命的先行者孙中山首先提出“振兴中华”的口号，他领导的辛亥革命，推翻了在中国延续几千年的君主专制制度。
Dr. Sun Yat-sen，China's forerunner in the democratic revolution, was the first to put forward the slogan of “rejuvenation of China“. He led the Revolution of 1911 to overthrow the autocratic monarchy lasting several millennia in China.
分析：the autocratic monarchy就是一种制度，可以不加system。
动词的增减也是翻译中常见的一种现象。英语名词、介词用得多，汉语则动词用得多。英译汉时，在英语没有出现动词的情况下，译文往往加上动词，可以使句子显得较为灵活。汉译英时，译文可以把原文使用的动词（不是谓语动词）删去，比较简洁。
5. But if we can find common ground to work together, the chance for world peace is immeasurably increased.
但是，如果我们能够找到进行合作的共同点，那么实现世界和平的机会就将无可估量地大大增加。
分析：the chance for world peace译作“实现世界和平的机会”，加了“实现”二字。
6. We have acquired a keen sense of the diversity, dynamism, and progress of China under your policies of reform and opening to the outside world.
我们强烈地感受到你们执行的改革和对外开放政策给中国带来的多样化、活力和进步。
分析：your policies of reform and opening to the outside world译作“你们执行的改革和对外开放政策”，加了“执行”二字。两处都在定语里加了一个动词，这是合乎汉语的说法的。
7. 相互了解，是发展国与国之间关系的前提。
Mutual understanding is the basis for state-to-state relations.
分析：删除了“发展”。
8. 中国始终是维护世界和平与地区稳定的坚定力量。
China is always a staunch force for world peace and regional stability .
分析：删除了“维护”。
